This devotional hymn in praise of Lord Hanuman is believed to have been written by 16th-century poet and saint Tulsidas who is best known for writing Ramcharitmanas. The word Hanuman refers to the name of Lord Hanuman and the word Chalisa refers to the 40 verses that are included in this devotional hymn (excluding the couplets at the beginning and at the end). Hanuman Chalisa is one of the most popular Hindu devotional hymns dedicated to Lord Hanuman.
